Spring 2012 News...
The children in Junior Neighbourhood Watch have had a really busy start to the New Year.
They have spent the last few months learning all about the Courts of Britain and how things have progressed throughout the last 100 years. The children have also been lucky enough to visit Teesside Magistrates court and act out their very own trial. The ASB team from Stockton Borough Council came along to add to the fun of the day and the court staff all joined in to make it a really special event for all. A big thanks to Ian Goodman, I think he enjoyed it as much as the children.
Before the winter break the JNHW children worked very hard learning about the dangers of fire. As part of this project all the schools sent out letters to the parents encouraging them to have smoke alarms installed. We are pleased to announce that due to this hard work and commitment we have 89 extra homes protected by smoke alarms. Thanks to Cleveland Fire Brigade for all of their support.
By the end of the summer term all of the year 6 children in the JNHW schools will have been taught Heart Start and CPR. That is a total of approximately 520 children who will now have the knowledge to help someone in need.
Thanks to the North East Ambulance Service for all their hard work.
The children will also be going on a trip to Safety Works this year to learn all about staying safe inside and outside of the home. Keep an eye on our gallery page for all the fun photos.
Be Happy! Stay Safe!
December 2011 News...
We have had a really busy couple of months here at Junior Neighbourhood Watch.
The children have been working really hard learning all about fire safety in the home and how to stay safe during bonfire night and festivals.
The children’s focus has very much been on keeping their friends and loved ones safe, so they have been using all their skills to design posters and write poems to help spread the word around the community.
This month letters have gone home to all of the families of our JNHW schools inviting them to a free home fire survey by Cleveland Fire Brigade. We have had a really good response and many forms returned so we have many safer homes in Stockton due to the hard work of the children and the Fire Brigade. Along with this invite we attached an escape planner to encourage families to plan in advance how they would escape in the event of a fire.
Also this term some of the children have been learning how to work with puppets. Our friends at Tristar very kindly offered to come along with Timmy and friends and put on a Christmas production about fire safety.
Four children from each school worked behind the scenes to bring the puppets to life and the result was fantastic. The whole school all the way down to our nursery children had the chance to see the show and learn all about fire safety. To top it all off our friends at the Fire Brigade came along with their big shiny engine so all the children in school could chat to them and spray the hoses.
The children are very keen to send their thanks to Ian Goodman, ex fire fighter and Magistrate for all of his hard work keeping them safe. Also big thanks go to Cleveland fire brigade for all their visits and Special Superintendant Karel Simpson for all of his good advice into school.
Merry Christmas and a Happy Winter festival to all from Junior Neighbourhood Watch.
